Hello Reader,
Writing a “non recipe” recipe takes me longer (especially for a drink) than if I offered no choices. This Michelada is no exception-how much heat, how much salty, how much tomato or Clamato or V8, these things are a matter of opinion. When I make Micheladas or Bloody Marys at home mine has less salt and heat than the Misters'- that ginormous salty rim on the photo is for him.
I rediscovered the Michelada a few years ago when visiting Las Vegas- so perfect on a hot day.
Make it with an NA lager and the brunch buzz can be caffeine only.
But what I really want to talk about is the salted rim. I didn’t think I liked them and then I realized it doesn’t have to go all the way around the glass! So you have a choice. Salt one sip, no salt the next. And if you really only want one salty sip, you can salt the straw (or do the tajin salt combo like I used for the photos) For me that is the perfect amount just one small sodium hit right at the get go.
looking for some non-alcoholic brunch bubbles? Try a vanilla grapefruit "mocktail"

Speaking of Brunch
Sunday is Mothers Day (but you probably already know that)
Like every holiday this one can be bittersweet.
I've been watching the electric company battle the Osprey who really want to build their nest on the power poles overlooking the water. The birds haul broken branches and begin to build and then a bucket truck comes, a man in a hard hat inspects for eggs, and finding none, they tear the nest down.
This makes me think of the hummingbird nest in our old back yard and that tiny, viciously protective hummingbird defending the whole yard and tree from crows and jays. Until that baby left the nest we had one bird in our backyard.
I'm not sure where I'm going with this so here are two brunch treats- one savory, one sweet.
See you next week (ish)!
