Simple syrups are simple life is sometimes not- plus green chili blue cheese scones

Issue #3

Recipe

Hello Reader,

I set out to write about simple syrups and it turned out to be not that simple- the syrups are.

One part water one part sugar (or honey) add herbs (like the pea shoots from last week’s mocktail) or spices (like the cardamom pods used to make the coffee cardamom lemon mocktail shown above) or fruits and veggies (like the jalapeño lime simple syrup linked below)

What turned out to be not so simple was creating a post about using those simple syrups in something other than beverages.

I do it all the time when a recipe calls for a little sugar (like a macaroni salad or cornbread) and the particular flavor I have in the fridge (like sage or pea-shoot) complements the dish.

But it turns out after a quick round of testing none of those recipes are quite ready to post so they remain suggestions for this week.

And just in case you are craving something not sweet here’s what we are having for breakfast this Saturday morning (with the egg and tomato)

Blue Cheese and Hatch Green Chile Scones

Fiction

Okay no fiction again. What’s worse than a haiku? A dream. Wanna hear about my dream? No? Well here it is

Something about a computer being hacked and seemingly unresponsive so the user kept clicking on boxes or buttons to close things out but really the screen on top was covering up what they were really clicking on. Tech person says “ yes mister such and such it looks like you’ve been buttoned “

See you next week!
